Kura Whānau Reo

The Ministry of Education, Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori and Te Ataarangi have invested in a project to develop 150 or more whānau reo speaking communities.

Kura Whānau Reo is a programme that supports entire whānau to learn and speak the Māori language.  Pouārahi Reo work alongside whānau to increase knowledge and use of reo Māori in their homes and communities.

Participation in the programme requires a strong commitment by whānau members to using the Māori language on a daily basis.

Kura Whānau Reo is currently delivered in Te Kao, Kaitaia, Kerikeri, Auckland, Tauranga, Ruatahuna, Hamilton, Waharoa, Ruatoria, Gisborne, Hastings, Rotorua, Taupō, Whanganui, Hawera and Wellington.
